Michigan Launches Adult-Use Marijuana Ahead of Schedule.

On December 1, 2019, Michigan marijuana retailers and consumers enjoyed their first day of legal sales. The landmark day included lines stretching nearly three blocks around one Ann Arbor dispensary.

What went on behind the scenes was another milestone: sales originally slated for January 1, 2020 started a month early thanks to a smooth transition by state regulators and licensees into Metrc’s track-and-trace system.

Two years earlier, Metrc first entered The Great Lakes State. After winning the medical marijuana tracking contract in May 2017, the first users were credentialed into our system in August 2018. As of November 2019, we have already supported over 276,000 active medical marijuana patients and over 37,000 caregivers.

Following this success, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

the state agency tasked with cannabis compliance – expanded our work in the state to include both medical and adult-use inventory and sales tracking. And thanks to the strong relationship we forged between Michigan’s regulators and the cannabis industry, the complete and successful integration of its new adult-use marketplace happened a month ahead of schedule.

Each week, the number of adult-use and medical businesses credentialed into Metrc’s system in Michigan steadily increases. And the consumer demand continues to rise, bringing in a massive new stream of revenue to the state. We’re excited for the launch of Michgan’s marketplace and looking forward to continued growth in 2020.
