Metrc Successfully Launches in Maine in Under 60 Days

Today, Metrc announced the successful implementation of its cannabis track-and-trace technology with the Maine Office of Marijuana Policy (OMP). Metrc received the state’s deployment certification on March 30, after adjusting its previously scheduled roadshow that month to online webinars in support of public health and safety during the spread of COVID-19.

“I’m proud of my team’s ability to continuously deliver, meet tight deadlines, and support our clients,” said Jeff Wells, CEO, Metrc. “We adapted to support social distancing while still supporting Maine’s cannabis industry with a virtual roadshow. We’ve already formed a strong foundation with OMP and look forward to continuing to support the state’s growing legal cannabis marketplace.”

Maine mutually ended its contract with track-and-trace provider BioTrackTHC after eight months in December 2019 and entered into a new contract with Metrc in February 2020 to support its upcoming adult-use cannabis sales in 2020. In total, Metrc successfully deployed in Maine in fewer than 60 days. The cannabis software company has a strong record onboarding new states in short amounts of time – regardless of medical-only or full adult-use marijuana sales – as shown in Nevada in 2017 and Michigan in 2019.

“We appreciate Metrc’s ability to deliver a completed track-and-trace solution within one of the tightest timeframes imaginable,” said Erik Gundersen, Director, OMP. “Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Office of Marijuana Policy and Metrc teams, this important milestone was realized—as scheduled—at the end of March. We look forward to a long, productive relationship and utilizing Metrc to help ensure the success of the programs we regulate.”

Metrc will now work with OMP to schedule training and credentialing new users into the system. For more information visit www.metrc.com/maine.
