Ohio FAQ

How can I get Metrc training?

Once a provisional license is awarded by the Department of Commerce or Board of Pharmacy, training will be provided by Metrc to the provisional licensees as they work toward receiving a Certificate of Operation. Training will be required as part of establishing compliance with the inventory tracking system, which is required for a Certificate of Operation to be issued. A Metrc training class should only be scheduled when the Provisional Licensee is within 60-days of their final inspections. Please utilize the Schedule Training above, Metrc will provide weekly New Business training classes every Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM ET. Please check back when Advanced Training Classes will be provided.

Metrc has a complete set of documentation including manuals, state specific user guides, lab guides and more. These will be made available to licensees after they have been credentialed into the system.

How do I apply for my license?

Metrc does not manage the licensing part of the application process. Metrc manages the “seed-to-sale” inventory tracking system for Ohio. For application information on licensures, visit

How much will the system cost?

There are two costs associated with Metrc’s “seed-to-sale” inventory tracking system: (1) A monthly, $40 licensing fee for each licensee (i.e. cultivator, processor, testing laboratory, and dispensary), and (2) the costs associated with the procurement of plant and package tags from Metrc. The Department of Commerce will cover the monthly licensing fee for the first year. Licensees will be responsible for the monthly licensing fee beginning September 8, 2019.

Can I use third party software with Metrc?

What is the timeline before I can use your software?

A timeline is being developed now. When it’s complete, it will be published on the Ohio page of and on the state’s Medical Marijuana Control Program website.

How do I get into Metrc’s system?

Access to Metrc is only provided to official state licensed businesses.

Do I need to purchase any additional hardware such as computers, bar-code readers or RFID readers.
