The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) welcomes you to our Marijuana Enforcement Tracking Reporting & Compliance (Metrc) webpage. This site will serve as a resource for information on the Metrc system chosen as Michigan’s statewide monitoring system for integrated marihuana tracking, inventory, and verification under the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act, Marihuana Tracking Act, and Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act.
The mission of the MRA is to establish Michigan as the national model for a regulatory program that stimulates business growth while preserving safe consumer access to marijuana. Q: How much will it cost for the system?
A: Starting on June 1st, 2019 licensees must pay for the Metrc monthly support fee of $40 per month. This support fee covers every licensed businesses employees unlimited phone calls to Metrc’s support line (877-566-6506) or emails to firstname.lastname@example.org. The support fee also covers access to both Metrc’s webinar based and in person training presentations. Licensees will also need to purchase RFID plant and package tags to track their inventory. Metrc RFID plant tags cost .45 cents per tag and the RFID package tags cost .25 cents per tag. .
Q: How do I get started in Metrc?
A: Metrc is only available to licensees once they have received a license from the State of Michigan. Distribution of Medical licenses began in August, 2018. If you currently have a Medical facility license or approved pre-qualification, you will need to sign up for Metrc’s New Business training. Once you have taken a New Business training, reach out to Metrc Support and request credentials into Metrc.
Q: How do I get training or a demo of Metrc?
A: Metrc training is available for all Pre-Qualified and licensed Medical facilities. Please click on the “Training Signup” button on www.metrc.com/michigan to see the available classes. Any in-person training classes are only available to licensed Medical facilities and those classes will periodically be available with notice being sent out via a Metrc bulletin.
Q: What POS systems will be available with Metrc?
A: Metrc offers an Interface called an API that allows 3rd party providers the ability to interface. More information can be located in the Validated Integrators page above.
Q: Will I have to use Metrc and a POS system?
A: A licensee can input sales data directly into Metrc through the user interface, but most licensees prefer to use 3rd party POS providers using the Metrc API (Application Programming Interface) or CSV (Comma-Separated Values) upload functions.
Q: Will there be an API integration with Metrc?
A: Yes, please refer to the integration and API news on the Metrc webpage.
Q: How does the system work?
A: Metrc is a hosted, real-time system that uses serialized tags with bar-code, human-readable and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags attached to every plant, and labels attached to wholesale packages to track marijuana inventory. Each tag is attached to a plant to facilitate tracking through different stages of growth, as well the drying and curing processes.
Q: Do I need to purchase any additional hardware such as computers, bar-code readers or RFID readers.
A: Metrc is a completely web-hosted system. That means that all access to Metrc is done via the internet and only requires an internet connection and a web browser. No additional hardware is required. Also, there is no software to download, install, or maintain.
Q: Will other licensees be able to see my inventory information?
A: No. Licensees will only be able to access their own information through Metrc. They will not be able see any information about any other licensee.
Q: What if I have technical issues after the system has deployed?
A: Metrc LLC has a dedicated support staff team who will be available to resolve any technical support issues. The support desk can be contacted via phone (877-566-6506) or email (email@example.com). Metrc’s support line hours are from 10AM-9PM Monday-Friday and 10AM-8PM on Saturday. Metrc support will check email on Sunday.
Q: Are RFID readers were required?
A: Activities in Metrc can be accomplished without Bar-code scanners or RFID readers. Although the use of these tools can increase productivity and efficiencies, it will be up to each licensee to decide to use Bar-code or RFID readers, but their use is not required.
Integration & API
For third party vendors, the steps to obtain access to the Metrc API in Michigan are:
1. Request API developers documents and complete the information requested and email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

2. Attend a Metrc training class and complete the test.
4. Once Metrc receives approval for the API User Agreement, a test vendor API key for the sandbox will be generated.
5. Complete Capability Assessment in the sandbox. A document of the functionality assessment criteria will be provided to you when you submit your request. Requests should be submitted after completion of the Metrc training, not prior.
After these steps are complete and the evaluation is validated, Metrc LLC will issue a production vendor API key. When Metrc sends your production vendor API key, we will also ask for your company and contact information to add it to the Validated Integrator List.
