How do I get set up with the Metrc Sandbox?
Licensed users can access the Sandbox directly through the Support menu dropdown in Metrc. After initiating setup, the Sandbox is ready within 5 to 15 minutes. No need to log in! Inside the Metrc Sandbox, licensees can input sample data, explore different functions, and understand the platform’s layout in a risk-free environment.

Who can access the Metrc Sandbox?
All credentialed Metrc users automatically have access. This includes licensees, state regulators, and Metrc support staff. No additional credentialing is needed.
Are there any restrictions to know about?
While the Metrc Sandbox provides a robust testing system, it is important to understand what actions are unavailable in the sandbox environment:
- No manual data resets
- Employee settings cannot be modified
- Limited support for password changes and sandbox-specific technical issues
- Access to other Metrc solutions (e.g., Retail ID) and select new features (e.g., Saved Sessions on timeout) may not be immediately available
The Metrc Sandbox is designed for training and testing purposes only and is not meant for regulatory compliance reporting.
What happens to your data?
The Metrc Sandbox resets every quarter. This means all test data is cleared, but user credentials and API keys remain active. A banner inside the Sandbox system will notify users of upcoming reset dates.
Can you create sample transfer manifests?
Yes. Industry users can create sample Transfer Manifests to simulate real processes. These documents will not appear in production or affect real compliance data.
